There are 3 versions of this boat:
- -1- Standard rig / Retractable vertical keel
- -2- Furling rig / Retractable vertical keel
- -3- Furling rig / Bilge keel
Comments about important distinctions between the 3 versions:
- Almost the same Center of gravity for both version; retractable vertical keel classical rig, and bilge keel (a very little bit higher center of gravity).
- Same sail area to windward, (17m2)
- A more powerfull sail plan for the classical rig, downwind, with a spinnaker.
- Only about 6 percent of additional wetted surface on the bilge keel version whitch is available only with a single rudder.
- The best to windward: the vertical keel version!
- The furling rig is much lighter than the classical rig and very easy to use to reduce the sail area, instead of reefing.
- The bilge keel version offers more important transverse moments of inertia due to the position of each heavy keel far from the (longitudinal) center line, and slower transverse movements. This is comfortable on a little boat.
- Bilge keel: no inside system to handle the keel, very easy to build, and shalow draft (0,75m), and a little bit more sturdy when grounding. Home built bilge keels.
- Bilge keel: no inside keel sleeve from hull to deck. It is possible to gain volume inside and to open the bulkhead for more interior space.
Anyone can master the simple and strong construction method used for Souriceau. The boat is plywood built over a form using fiberglass and epoxy resin. Optionally, the boat can be built over her bulkheads. The entire boat is covered with a thin epoxy/glass coat. The hull is made with 9mm panels - with the option of chines or a more classic form. Build her in your garage and then put yourself in the videos above.
Souriceau roughly translated means "very young Mouse". Eric Henseval has designed this singluar boat with microcruising in mind. Microcruising can be thought of as sailing in small, seaworthy boats with simplicity. Whether the route is short or long, these little boats always provide wonderful voyages in an economical and simple way. Souriceau was designed to go anywhere, whether it is the Cheasapeake Bay, the Danube River or the Gulf or Morbihan. You could even cross an ocean by way of the trade winds (with much more comfort than the Berque brothers).

Arrangement
The cockpit is ample for fair weather sailing. If you feel the need for shelter, there are two 360° plexiglass domes over the berths - the boat can be operated from this warm, dry location.
She is designed to be fast for her length with good windward performance and good stability in following winds. She is unsinkable thanks for full foam flotation throughout.
