Description
This is a very simple, slim wallet with pockets for credit cards and drivers license as well as a full length one for bills - just like a real billfold. But this one is made of 3.8 oz. Challenge sailcloth - the same stuff we make many of our sails with. I have been carrying one since I first got it shortly after the OBX Raid. I hate having a fat wallet that makes you heel over while sitting and sometimes fall off bar stools. This gem is only about a tenth of an inch (3mm) thick max.
Here is the story: On that OBX Raid, I met Sean Moffitt, the son of my good friend Bill Moffitt. Sean is a kind of renaissance kid - he definitely marches to the beat of his own drum. He is a sailor and boat builder at a tender age. Turns out he is also a wallet maker. He made the one pictured at right. I noticed it when he pulled it out and I immediately wanted one.
I had our sailmaker make me one as soon as I got home. It had the small pockets opening up like the larger bill pocket as Sean had done. I found that this allowed credit cards and driver's licenses to fall out easily. That is never a good thing so I had it remade like the one at the top of the page. That way the cards are all captured when the wallet is folded.
The great thing about this wallet is that it is waterproof - unlike leather ones. I think it would make a great gift for that sailor friend that you don't want to spend too much on. Maybe your brother. The shipping is on us.
