Description
Most East Coast Cobles were of clinker (lapstrake) construction but a few were carvel and the 27â Northumbrian Coble emulates one of these by using modern strip planked construction. I have not attempted to âmodernizeâ the concept too much and so have gone for the traditional deep forefoot, well angled rudder and twin âdraftsâ (skegs) to help keep her to windward under sail and âgripâ the water. She is essentially a large open working boat with moveable seating set up mainly for rowing but with and an optional outboard well and a traditional standing lug rig.
