The DUO 1000 is a performance catamaran for the sportive sailor. The hulls are multi chine hulls.
Easy to build as a (ply)wood/glass/epoxy sandwich. The big open bridge deck is perfect for handling the boat and lounching. No deck house spoils the view. You are sitting in the center of the boat rater than somewhere on the back in a very exposed position where you can see only one side of the boat. A safe place for kids to.

The hulls have space for four to six persons, with a cozy bench arrangement. In bad weather you can pass from one hull to the other through the main beam.
All my design experience was going into the rigs. The boat sports a biplane (parallel) rig. I have a lot of experience in this area. The DUO 425 was designed 1983, followed by the "Butterfly"(1985/6). I experimented with a bend gaff/yard and sleeved sails on this boat to.
The design of the DUO 1000 biplane wishbone rig is different. It is a further development of the PELICAN wishbone rig. The wishbone stabilizes only the upper mast part which is the outhoul for the peak of the sail.
Furthermore, the sail is rolled vertical. The roller construction comprised only of the upper swivel which is direct attached to the sail. As bolt rope a Dyneema rope will be used. The roller at the base of the sail again, is connected direct to the sail. No Aluminum profile here nothing, no battens, so the rig is relative cheap.
Slats at the side of the masts can be added to streamline the rig even more, but this is more for the optic of the rig. Tests in France have shown that the gab between mast and sail do not diminish the efficiency of the rig.
We used the vertical roll system successful on our "Pelican" with a wishbone gaff. We sailed thousands of miles with this rig and it never let us down. The top mast acts as an end plate (winglet) to make the sail even more effective. The mast can rotate to increase or decrease the twist in the sails. The boom is self-containing, so no topping lift is necessary. To set sails is a matter of seconds (typical we needed 20 seconds to set the sail). Compare this to your boat with a normal main sail. Handling the sail is more or less fool proof and is done from the bridge deck. For the masts we will use glass fiber flag poles as base. The are build up to sufficient strength by adding Unidirectional carbon fiber and glass fiber.
