Description
The DRAKE series of ply sharpies are based upon very simple construction methods. Pre-shaped side panels are bent round frames and transom. An external chine stringer is then added followed by the bottom panel. The plans show basic construction and rig but the designs may be adapted for many different uses, ie., open motor fishing, beach camping, coastal trekking etc. The North American sharpie, upon which these designs are based, is a study in functional simplicity. They have high initial stability and are efficient sailing boats. You cannot really get a more simple shape to construct and yet their simplicity belies the sailing pleasure that sharpies give. The Drake 11 is an 11’x 4’ simple ply rowing skiff or sailing sharpie. For 1/4’’ or 3/8’’ ply. Sprit rig is shown but may be adapted to any rig. Note that details can be given, if required, for stitch and tape construction.
