Description

Shuttle Punt 2

  • LOA: 160" 4M
  • Beam: 27" 68.5cm
  • Height: 9" 22.8cm
  • Length folded: 80" 2M
  • Height folded: 18" 45.7cm
  • Load Capacity: 406 LB 185Kg

The Shuttle Punt 2 is an improved version of the original Shuttle Punt (now called Shuttle Punt 1).

Improvements:

  • A slightly rounded bow and stern
  • Shallow V bottom at the bow and stern
  • A raised, self-bailing floor which is above the waterline allowing water to drain out of side slots (similar to a sit on top ocean kayak)
  • A longer water line and longer length overall
  • The ability 2 hold 2 adults (406 LB) 185 KG
  • A faster shaped hull
  • Ability for a tall person to sleep inside 6’-4” tall

Like the original, the shuttle Punt 2 (SP2) is a folding punt which can be towed by a bicycle and can carry you and your bike on the water. When in bike trailer mode, there is plenty of interior room for camping gear and food/water supplies for an extended trip. SP2 is long enough to sleep inside, with the back half of the boat hinged and locked overhead with over 3’ of headroom allowing one to sit up just like you would in a dome tent.

A rain fly from a 1 or 2 person dome tent works well if draped over the punt.

Possible uses:

  • A folding dinghy (very stable and with lots of space)
  • A luggage carrier
  • A beach buggy
  • Insulated bike camper/trailer

Upcoming Accessory Plans:

I am currently working on set of plans to convert the SP2 into a 2-person sailboat, by adding a sail rig, leeboard, rudder, and stern plates. The stern plates would allow the boat to reach hydroplaning speeds.
