Racer X is a skin-on-frame open water racing boat that is sleek, elegant, fast and competitive - yet also quick, easy and very inexpensive to build. She is fit for both hard core racers and recreational rowers who go fast, but want more stability and versatility than a flat water scull has.

This ocean scull can be built at 22' or 24' / 6.7 or 7.32m, and features a classic wooden cockpit, sealed storage, permanent flotation, kelp shedding bow, a narrow waterline beam for speed, and a wide beam at the gunwales for stability if needed.

Racer X can be built by professionals or novices alike, and the plans come with full size templates, so there is no lofting required. The building guide not only covers construction and skinning of the boat, but also how to build your own sliding seat rig, including how to build the wing - and full instructions for building your own sculling oars from easy to obtain materials.

Plans are in both metric and imperial, and are available in paper or digital download formats. Frame kits are also available, via email.

Already, Racer X has been proven in endurance racing, and in hundreds of miles of river cruising. She's the most bang for the buck in open water rowing.
