Description
Snow Bunting is a river and estuary launch based upon the LIFU model hull with it's long waterline length and fairly full and buoyant ends. She has been designed for a client in Canada who wanted a seaworthy and trailable open launch. Full construction details are given for strip plank building combined with external diagonal veneers. This produces a very strong hull and allows the thickness of the Cedar strip planking to be reduced. The mould shapes are computer faired and she could be adapted for any method of construction (with or without veneering).
The steam plant on the first boat is an Alex Ritchie 15 IHP unit driving a 24" propeller although she could be powered by smaller units. A German client has also used the same design but is fitting a very heavy boiler unit and the drawings therefore give the mould shapes for a wider beam version (6'8") with slightly increased freeboard (This latter launch is Pluto).
