Description
We have had many requests for a longer version of our Fisher Swampscott 12 dinghy/dory, so here she is. At 16’ we have designed her to be considerably heavier than her smaller sister, although she could, if the builder wishes, be constructed in the same light fashion using 6 and 9mm ply. However, at 16’ we feel that she could be used much like her predecessors, as a true working boat as well as a good seaworthy coastal and estuary cruiser and therefore the plans show her to be built out of 9mm ply. In fact she takes 7 sheets of 9mm and 1 sheet of 12mm. Construction is very simple using the same technique as that used on the 12’ version, with pre shaped planks (the shapes are given on the drawings) - 4 per side plus the bottom - which are stitched together and then finished with epoxy filleting. There is a forward compartment for stowage or buoyancy and the interior can be changed from that shown on the plans to suit your own requirements. Construction would take about 70 hours. LOA 16'; Beam 5'; Draft 5"/2'9"; Sail Area 90 sq.ft; Approx. wht. 250 lbs. Details are also given for a 5'6" beam version with a wider and more vertical transom.
