Description
A client contacted me with the requirement for a self build or kit club racing dinghy for her daughter as a step up from the Mirror dinghies and which could also be built quickly and cheaply by a youngster. The HOBO 12 is the result. LOA 12’6’’; Beam 4’’10’’; Max Draft 3’3’’; Sail Areas, Main 60 sq.ft., Jib 24 sq.ft; Hull weight approx 125 lbs. Hull construction takes 4 1/2 sheets of 6mm and a couple of sheets of 4mm ply and starts by using the pre-shaped deck as a building base onto which are fixed the ply frames and girders which slot together and form the cockpit and hull shape. The prefabricated centreboard case is then fitted followed by the hull skin. Construction is quick and simple and you end up with a fast and exciting club racing dinghy which is the next step towards a Fireball. She may also be used with the mainsail only and full details are given for making your own spars. Details are also given for a 14' hull length.
