Description
For Etna we have gone for a hull shape which is very much not the steam launch 'norm'. With her modern reverse counter stern and pronounced tumblehome home in the aft sections changing into a flaired bow sections, she has a hull that will turn heads.
The construction is for 15mm (5/8") strip Cedar planking with a diagonal veneer of 3mm (1/8") Kaya but she could be built with a single thickness of 18mm (3/4") Cedar sheathed in glass/epoxy. The bilge stringers and engine/boiler beds are fitted before planking commences so that there is no awkward fitting later.
The standard fit-out is for a large aft cockpit, central steam plant space and forward cockpit.
Look out for her sister launch 'Michelle' which is a similar design but with a more raked bow.
