Description
'Guddling' is to fish using your hands by groping around under rocks or in a stream from the bank or a boat - it is a term more commonly used above the border in Scotland. Back in 1999 Tony Simmons of A. Simmons Aluminium Craft asked me to develop the hull panel and frame/transom shapes for a simply single chine shallow draft boat that could be used on quiet backwaters for both both rod fishing and 'guddling'.
Tony liked my Rascal Dory/Skiff with it's single chine for it's simplicity, but wanted a lighter design that you could lean out on to easily get your hands in the water. Originally, they were made in aluminium but are no longer available so I have added a drawing showing how to make one in stitch and tape plywood.
