Description
The DRAKE 15 has ben designed for a client who has already built the Drake 18 and now wants something lighter, more for personal rowing with the occasional pasenger and some gear. The design has to be car-toppable and have the option to sail.
A small standing lug has been drawn to provide auxiliary power when not rowing and she will also take a small outboard. To keep weight down and construction simple there is no centreboard or daggerboard - the chines have been extended to help grip the water and offer lateral resistance. The drawings show two ways to build the hull - traditional ply over frame with the framework set up on a strongback or floor and the ply sides wrapped around the frames or, modern stitch and tape construction. For ply over frame the chine stringer/log can be internal or external. The plans include the hull panel and frames shapes for 2 versions - the original with an internal beam of 3'9" and a Mark 2 with a beam of 4'6". |
