Description

The THALAS 13' project was inspired by Whitehall, the most classical and elegant American row boat of the XIX century, but obviously, it is a very different boat both for hull lines - which have been modified to facilitate construction - and for its weight, which has been greatly reduced thanks to the adoption of modern construction methods. The narrow water lines allow excellent rowing performance and the V shaped bottom ensures regular speed rate and wave penetration. No centreboard has been considered because it is a boat in which the sail has an auxiliary function and it is foreseen above all for free sailing. We have, however, noticed that even without a centreboard, the boat is able - under favourable conditions - to go up wind without difficulty. In any case the plans include also a version with a centreboard and afford all the details for building the board as well as the trunk. The construction of the THALAS 13' is within the reach of any builder, including first-time beginners.
