Headwater Deadrise 19 Sled Boat Designed by Tracy O’Brien I designed the Deadrise 19 to add a Jet-Sled style hull to my design lineup, as well as a test platform to explore the possibilities of developing a hull-form that uses a minimum of plywood to construct a serviceable hull of a given displacement. The panel size I selected is 48” X 32”, with the 32” dimension running from keel to chine for the bottom panels, and from chine to sheer for the side panels. This configuration allows the face grain of the panels to provide maximum structural stiffness, as well as excellent impact resistance, while providing easy flexibility to form up the bow of the boat. Hull stiffness is provided through the use of full length strip-laminated sheer decks, which are supported by a series of plywood knees fillet-bonded to the interior of the side panels. The fore-deck is constructed by a continuation of the strip laminated sheer decks. The transom is formed using 3/8” marine plywood faces bonded to a 1.5” horizontal cedar or fir, edge- glued core. 3 point level flotation is provided by foam filled chambers in the bow and stern quarters. Construction is by Taped-Seam plywood, (Though a number have been built in welded aluminum.) Power choices include either long-shaft outboards to 125HP or a 135HP I/O unit. Plans include Five 11”X17” sheets printed from Ink on Vellum masters, 12 typewritten sheets of Instructions, and a 4 page Instruction sheet of scarphing techniques. Plans are $70.00 postpaid.
